  • 5/12 Update

Posted on May 12th, 2009 Carl No comments

I think our eyes were bigger than our stomach. This cartoon in size is a little big for a first project being done by just James and myself. I still want it done since we’ve put in a good amount of work so far. It’s been a good learning process for sure. However, we’re thinking of scaling back future episodes to shorter run times to keep us moving. Maybe do some multi-part short episodes instead of one long episode.

Well, it took a long time, but I think aside from any minor tweaks James sees, Scene 5 is now done. It clocked in just over two and a half minutes long. So, where does that leave us in completetion?

People often ask me what its like to be so awesome. I never know how to answer that. In short, here is the storyboard concept, versus the final product. Read the rest of this entry »

  • Progress and Out-takes

So, progress. It’s coming along. Currently working on Scene 5, which is the longest one I’ve done so far. Might even be longest in the cartoon. Taking it in chunks though and thats helping it be more manageable. Once this scene is done we should be about 1/3rd of the way through the animation phase!

As a special treat here is Scott Heinowski (the voice of Takt) raw and uncut yelling things we ended up not using. It’s work safe!

  • April 8th update!

    It’s been awhile, eh internet?

Well, I’m back from vacation and hitting the, uh, mouse buttons with renewed fever. While on vacation I was able to hang out with James, talk a little shop, and throw up in his apartment. What does this mean? Well episode one is underway and episode two is under discussion. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, but a script is at least started and an idea has been formed.

As for episode one’s current status, I’ve almost completed another scene, but am waiting on some assets before I can call it finished. James is going to start mixing audio for the next scene to do and I’m hoping to get that underway tomorrow. It’s a slow process, butI’m pleased with what’s coming out.

    Till next time!

  • Theme Song! Episode One Edition.

    Theme Song!

Music by James, Animation by Carl!

Theme song visuals will change for each episode slightly. Expect a different ‘Start Screen’ and ‘hidden character’ for each new episode.

  • Scene 7, without dialogue.

To give a short demonstration of what I do, here is scene 7 of episode 1 in its animatic form, without dialogue.

Here is the process: Script is written by Carl, I’ll do a rewrite, Carl will do another rewrite, et al. We then storyboard it. We record audio with the voice actors, Then I slice it together. After that I send it to Carl, who makes comments and points out timing issues. I fix it, send it back, he approves. I write background music, and make a set of sound effects. I take the Dialogue and then I set up and time music cues, sound effects, and balance and compress the audio. I render it into a short video (Like the one here, only with words) then I send it to Carl for the Animating. (Which is the really hard part) while he does a rough animation, Scott and I will make backgrounds, and send them to him. He will insert them behind the animation and make small adjustments here and there. After the animating is done, we watch what we’ve done, pat ourselves on the back and move on to the next scene.

  • March 18th Update!

Well, production is slowly crawling along. Some of the audio needs to be re-recorded due to some quality issues. But I have completed the first scene. It’s looking good after going through two visual revisions.

Next week I’m going out of town to visit family, but production will march on once I return. I’m pretty pleased with how it’s turning out, and seeing just a single scene completed is exciting. Once some more scenes get done I’ll put together a trailer for the episode. I’d rather not show scenes as they finish, but a trailer might be fun to make.

  • Episode One Update: March 9th 2009

Posted on March 9th, 2009 Carl No comments

Episode one is currently in production! James has posted a number of storyboards we’re using to see how things will work. I’m currently working on getting the characters finalized in the design.

We also have our first script finished. It’s called Infringed. We’ve done three read through sessions and it’s sounding pretty good. We’ve brought Scott Heinowski on as the voice Takt, and Infringed features the (hopefully recurring) voice of Trevor Mueller.

Once we have the voices down it’s the long hard process of putting video to it. Progress is being made!
