  • The Tale of St. Patrick’s Day!

Posted on July 30th, 2009 Carl No comments

Ah yes, nothing like celebrating a March holiday in the fall.

James and I have finally done it. We’ve completed a cartoon. This is something we’ve talked about for four or five years now. And we finally got together and made it happen.

So, go watch The Tale of St. Patrick’s Day. However, it is in a competition, so starting September 1st we need you to go back and vote for it. Well, that is, if you like it!

  • Long time, no update. Let’s fix that.

Posted on July 26th, 2009 Carl No comments

Hello internet. I’m sorry for the lack of updates over the last few months. We had some monkey wrenches thrown into the mix.  However, all is not lost.

We are currently wrapping up production on a short film for a contest. I expect it to be done in the next few days, and posted here once it’s set.

From there, we can go back to Episode 1 and finish that since it’s around halfway done. From there, we might change up a few things to try and get content out faster. More details once James and I discuss how things will proceed.

Thanks for stopping by after 2 months of inactivity on my part. I hope to not let it happen again.

  • 5/12 Update

Posted on May 12th, 2009 Carl No comments

I think our eyes were bigger than our stomach. This cartoon in size is a little big for a first project being done by just James and myself. I still want it done since we’ve put in a good amount of work so far. It’s been a good learning process for sure. However, we’re thinking of scaling back future episodes to shorter run times to keep us moving. Maybe do some multi-part short episodes instead of one long episode.

People often ask me what its like to be so awesome. I never know how to answer that. In short, here is the storyboard concept, versus the final product. Read the rest of this entry »

    Theme Song!

Music by James, Animation by Carl!

Theme song visuals will change for each episode slightly. Expect a different ‘Start Screen’ and ‘hidden character’ for each new episode.

  • Scene 7, without dialogue.

Posted on March 19th, 2009 James No comments

To give a short demonstration of what I do, here is scene 7 of episode 1 in its animatic form, without dialogue.

Here is the process: Script is written by Carl, I’ll do a rewrite, Carl will do another rewrite, et al. We then storyboard it. We record audio with the voice actors, Then I slice it together. After that I send it to Carl, who makes comments and points out timing issues. I fix it, send it back, he approves. I write background music, and make a set of sound effects. I take the Dialogue and then I set up and time music cues, sound effects, and balance and compress the audio. I render it into a short video (Like the one here, only with words) then I send it to Carl for the Animating. (Which is the really hard part) while he does a rough animation, Scott and I will make backgrounds, and send them to him. He will insert them behind the animation and make small adjustments here and there. After the animating is done, we watch what we’ve done, pat ourselves on the back and move on to the next scene.

  • Welcome to The Third Half!

Posted on March 9th, 2009 Carl No comments

Hello there. I suppose it’s come time for a more formal post.

My name is Carl Kloster, and this is The Third Half. It’s been an on again off again project with my good friend James Roach. It started out as a cartoon we wanted to do. Then when it was getting hard to produce everything and do school work, I transitioned it into a short lived web comic. Now with some downtime James and I are going to attempt once more on making it a cartoon.

If you had seen the web comic before now, you’ll have an idea of what everything is about. The comic set up the characters and how they came to live and work together. But we wanted to start the cartoon fresh, so we’re not going to rehash that. At least not yet. So, if you’re wondering who is who, check out the character page. Right now there’s only short descriptions but pictures and such are coming soon.

We hope you’re as excited as we are. Keep tuned to this blog for updates on the production progression!

Music for the theme song. Work in progress.

We were going for a digital to acoustic transition. I wanted it to end quietly and abruptly.
